Who’s Visiting the Vulture Restaurant?

Off-grid video monitoring for griffon vulture conservation - Strganac vulture restaurant

Karsterra d.o.o., in collaboration with the Public Institution “Priroda”, designed and implemented an off-grid video surveillance system at the Strganac vulture restaurant on the island of Cres. The system enables continuous, non-intrusive monitoring of Griffon Vultures (Gyps fulvus) and other wildlife species visiting the site.

This solution supports conservation efforts by allowing researchers to study vulture behavior without disturbance, identify individuals through ring reading, and assist in GPS tagging operations. It also provides valuable insights into the presence of other species at the feeding station, contributing to a broader understanding of the ecosystem.

With its autonomous power supply and remote accessibility, the system represents a significant step forward in wildlife monitoring and management in remote karst environments.
